{"id":71,"date":"2016-09-21T13:19:02","date_gmt":"2016-09-21T13:19:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alchemyfor.life\/balancecoaching\/?p=71"},"modified":"2016-09-21T13:27:18","modified_gmt":"2016-09-21T13:27:18","slug":"alchemy-balance-flask","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alchemyfor.life\/balancecoaching\/2016\/09\/21\/alchemy-balance-flask\/","title":{"rendered":"Alchemy and The Balance Flask"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>The Flask<\/h1>\n<p>You hear me refer to a &#8216;flask&#8217; fairly often when talking about balance. \u00a0&#8220;What&#8217;s this flask?&#8221; you may ask yourself if you&#8217;re new to my articles. \u00a0&#8220;What&#8217;s a flask?&#8221; you may ask if you&#8217;ve never heard of one. \u00a0Wait, why don&#8217;t you know what a flask is?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/alchemyfor.life\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-72\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alchemyfor.life\/balancecoaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/logoafl2.png\" alt=\"Flask\" width=\"72\" height=\"90\" \/><\/a>Anyway, in creating Alchemy for Life, I came up with the metaphor loosely based on the thinking that we have a flask of our Time, Energy and Resources. \u00a0It&#8217;s much easier to imagine all the time and effort and money your life spends as a <em>liquid in a flask<\/em>. \u00a0Otherwise it&#8217;s hard to get your brain around that. \u00a0This way, you can picture the finite amount\u00a0of liquid in there. \u00a0You can picture that you only have so much, and the things you do in life require you to spill some out into them to make them happen. \u00a0Sort of an Elixir of Life, yes?<\/p>\n<h2>Spill what now?<\/h2>\n<p>Daughter needs to be driven to soccer? \u00a0Spill out some time and effort. \u00a0Son wants karate lessons? \u00a0Spill out resources. \u00a0He wants you to take the lessons with him? \u00a0More resources, and now time and effort. \u00a0Grabbing a beer? \u00a0Time and resources (unless the beer&#8217;s on them). \u00a0Want to work out? \u00a0Time (the hour you work out), Effort (the working out, the driving there, making sure your work out clothes are clean) and resources (the cost of the membership, the fancy work out clothing, the gas to get there).<\/p>\n<p>See? \u00a0That&#8217;s a lot of stuff in a very simple schedule. \u00a0Imagine a demanding job, a pretty involved hobby, lots of friends, a wife\/husband that likes to over book your free time socially, kids and their demands\/needs. \u00a0Imagine how complex it gets when you&#8217;re going through a transition &#8211; switching careers, going through a divorce, facing retirement, becoming an empty nester, dealing with an injury, or even a massive success\/move.<strong>*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All complex, but all easily understood with the metaphor of the flask, (and <a href=\"http:\/\/alchemyfor.life\">the web tool I created<\/a> to see it all).<\/p>\n<p>So, now you know that when I say you&#8217;re &#8220;spilling some out&#8221; it means you&#8217;re taking time \/ effort \/ resources from your reserve and donating it to an event or activity or commitment in your life. \u00a0When I say you&#8217;re &#8220;spilling some back&#8221; it means you are recovering some of the same from the event or commitment and restoring your reserve.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not talking about the kind you sneak into a football game. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>*<\/strong> Look for an upcoming post on <strong><em>maintaining balance through transition<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0I&#8217;m also giving a talk on this in November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Flask You hear me refer to a &#8216;flask&#8217; fairly often when talking about balance. \u00a0&#8220;What&#8217;s this flask?&#8221; you may ask yourself if you&#8217;re new to my articles. \u00a0&#8220;What&#8217;s a flask?&#8221; you may ask if you&#8217;ve never heard of one. \u00a0Wait, why don&#8217;t you know what a flask is?
